Portland, Oregon June 4th.
It’s after midnight here in Portland. I leave tomorrow to fly to Los Angeles and join the team, then we ride out on Monday morning. I am getting more excited by the hour.
Tonight I had some friends over to the house to say goodbye, then went down to the Lucky Lab where lots of folks get together each Wednesday night. There are a few friends around here that I wish were going with us. One of those guys is Mike McDonald. Mike is an old friend and we’ve talked for a couple years about riding across the country. Mike just got married and took a job with a church across town so won’t be doing the ride this year. But he is one of the guys who I will miss. And there are more. I meet every Tuesday morning with three other guys, Jason, Dave and Justin, and I will be missing those guys as well. And I wish Wade Trimmer were going also. And Kurt Nelson and so many more. I am looking forward to the adventure of the trip, but I am also looking forward to coming back to this place with a new found appreciation for the great folks who have made Portland home. See you guys soon.
Tomorrow I will do one last ride, then come home and pack up the bike and head toward the airport. Will report more in transit.
Good night.

Hey Donald, your books have challenged me and I so enjoy getting to know you through your books. I look forward to hearing more of your adventure in the next months. What a ride!
